Feature Friend of Ximula Sail - SHI HUI

We’re doing the same too - which is why this week, we’d like to introduce another one of our #happysailors - Shi Hui, who has been on board our Friends of Ximula Sail sunset cruise with her family and friends a few times, and also won our #BondVowyage yacht photoshoot giveaway contest for her parents’ anniversary!
Hello! Please introduce yourself, and how did you get to know about our Friends of Ximula Sail sunset cruise?
Hi, my name is Shi Hui! I got to know of Ximula Sail through a friend from Eventbrite and decided to try it out!
How was your experience on board our sunset cruise?
Homely. Every visit was like visiting a good friend, and it was the people that kept us going and going. Also, the experience on board is always uplifting. There seems to be magic whenever we set off on the cruise, the moments are therapeutic.
What do you do for a living? How did you get into what you are doing?
I am in financial advisory. Besides providing financial solutions, I am also building the next generation leaders. I believe there is so much more one can achieve with team work ( 团结力量大 ). And with the heart to serve beyond my core work, I hope we can contribute more together for the larger community.
My church was preaching about "church without walls" and how we can be market leaders to impact others positively. As an engineering trained student, this was not at the top of my mind yet, and as I started praying for a direction on how I can achieve a meaningful purpose in life... somehow this opportunity came right to me. #lovingpeoplelovinggod
Through my course of work, I indeed can sow my seeds of love into others’ lives and those who are of importance to them too.
What are you passionate about? How did you discover this passion?
I love to write - particularly songs and stories! During NTU days, I wrote for theatre productions and directed plays. I've also written a song for my work organisation and somehow it has become the "theme" song of the organisation then.
What have you been busy with lately?
Working from home is a blessing (真的很幸福) ! Although I’ve become really really busy and can no longer differentiate my working hours from personal ones (with meetings after meetings), I’m often blessed with surprises and warmth that keep my days happy and fulfilled!
Can you share with us your philosophy in life / a quote you live by?
This is something I've written for myself and live by: 从新开始，从心开史。
Translates to: Start from the beginning, start from the heart.
Everyday is a brand new day and new opportunities await for us. I believe that by doing things sincerely from the heart, we can create the next miracle that may even be good enough to become a legacy!
Have you made any friends through the sunset cruise, and do you remember / keep in touch with any of them?
Yes! I've made friends with the crew of Ximula Sail!
Vanessa especially, her heart of serving touches my family members. And beautiful Minqi who's my first connection to Ximula Sail and she's been blessing us with opportunities to be part of the family! Not forgetting Shawn and Victor too! And more impressively, my parents were star-struck whenever they chance upon captain Darren and beautiful Evelyn. Ximula Sail is more than making friends on board; to me, it is akin to my "sailing family members". I also bring friends on board too! It's a good hangout spot to chill with like-minded friends on a lovely yacht.
What do you think makes a happy sailor? Do you think you are one / can be one?
Totally! Just being the "passenger sailor" like what I've been doing! Trust the technicalities to the experts at Ximula Sail. When I was younger, I often dreamed of living in a bus or on a yacht... and waking up every morning to a new destination. For now, I really hope I'll be able to meet someone who'll be willing to take 6 months off work and fulfil my "nomadic dream" together with me, while we are still young. (:

I'm thankful to the Instagram stories feed where I've acquired new knowledge on clouds, moon, corals and more. I'm looking forward to topics on yachts and sailing!
What kind of people would you most like to be connected with?
Kind people! Those who choose kindness over intelligence and success. I feel that being purely kind is an extremely rare commodity nowadays.

Friends of Ximula Sail is our community of members who have joined us on our Open Sunset Cruises. Through these cruises, we have people who share the same kind of love that we have for the ocean, of whom we wouldn’t have had the fortune to meet, if not for this platform. These happy sailors often bring with them friends and families that are passionate about life, and we thought how awesome it would be to share some of them with everyone - hence this series of Feature Friends of Ximula Sail!
